MVC with impalement and fly-out

Rescue Box 74-3. Delmar Fire Dept and Salisbury Fire Dept units responded for a motor vehicle collision involving a moped. Initial reports indicated the operator was impaled. Paramedic A-74 arrived first and confirmed the report. Maryland State Police Aviation was requested. Delmar Truck 74 and Salisbury Rescue 1 worked together to free the patient. The patient was freed in 8 minutes and transferred to State Police Helicopter Trooper 4. The Priority-1, Category-B patient was flown to UMD Shock/Trauma in Baltimore.
